My Pants Are Looser, I Am Indeed A Loser
Of all the grammatical/spelling errors I see, the loose/lose one drives me to distraction. It seems that very few people these days, can tell the difference. I used to think it was just a plain typo, but I have seen it way too often for it to be just a typo.
If I read once more that someone is "loosing their mind", I may just lose mine.
It's quite simple really, say it out loud to yourself. When you say you want to lose weight, there is only one "o" and the se sounds like a z; when you say you would like your pants to be loose, there are two "o"s and the se sounds like s.
If you don't believe me, you can listen to each word at Dictionary.com, you can also find out the meaning and basically everything you would ever want to know about either word"
Lose
Loose
And on a closing note, when you talk about losing something or loosing something (although I would probably use loosening, but loosing is also correct), you drop the "e".
And if you want a laugh, read this thread on the MacRumours forums...
