HarperCollins to offer free books on their website

HarperCollins is now offering free electronic versions of some of their books on their website.

According to the New York Times:

"Starting Monday, readers who log on to www.harpercollins.com will be able to see the entire contents of “The Witch of Portobello” by Mr. Coelho; “Mission: Cook! My Life, My Recipes and Making the Impossible Easy” by Mr. Irvine; “I Dream in Blue: Life, Death and the New York Giants” by Roger Director; “The Undecided Voter’s Guide to the Next President: Who the Candidates Are, Where They Come from and How You Can Choose” by Mark Halperin; and “Warriors: Into the Wild” the first volume in a children’s series by Erin Hunter."

These are just a small selection of the books available for viewing.

The publisher is hoping that this will increase book sales.

That's great... I just wish there was an easy way to read ebooks that rivaled the pleasure of reading a book...

I agree with you. I can't see myself reading a 300 page book online. And the publisher is betting on that, they figure you'll see something you like and go out and buy it.

Thanks for the comment.

Susan,

Thank you so much for this heads up ...

I have already started on the Witch of Portabello on-line... and whilst I agree that it is not the same as rading it on the printed page, it will do, until I will eventually get my own copy.

Since reading the Alchemist I have been trekking through Coehlo's entire works... this is just such a wonderful blessing.

Thank you.

Lilla ...

You are welcome. I was excited when I read about it too. There are a few titles there I'm interested in
